  • Purpose and Mission

    “The Big Give” (TBG) is the name representing a Giving Circle of men within the Midland community who are dedicated to ensuring the good works engaged in by various Midland-area non-profit, educational, and municipal organizations, are supported.  The purpose and mission of TBG is as follows:

    “The Big Give” represents a collection of 100 men or more from Midland County who are committed to ensuring this area remains one of the best communities in the country for families.  Our mission is to provide a recurring funding mechanism for non-profit, educational, and municipal organizations within Midland County that are dedicated to improving the quality of life for our citizens.

  • By-Laws

    1.      Members agree to provide a total of $300.00 annually or $100.00 per meeting to support a total of three organizations including non-profits, schools, or municipal entities such as a public safety groups, parks and recreational facilities, libraries, etc.  Religious organizations will be included as long as they are non-profit and the funding received will benefit the community at large.

    2.      Nominations may be submitted by a group or organization in two ways:

    a.      The group may self-nominate by contacting the Midland Area Community Foundation (MACF) and submitting a request for funding.

    b.      A nomination may be submitted by any member of TBG on behalf of the organization by contacting the MACF.

    3.      Recipient organizations must specify the purpose of the funds.  Funding may not be afforded to an individual.

    4.      Affiliates of organizations will be treated separately.  If selected, the affiliate (not necessarily the organization) will be ineligible for selection for three years.

    5.      TBG will meet three times each year to vote on the group which will receive the funds.

    6.      Payment must be received before the vote occurs in order for the member to have a recorded vote.

    7.      Funds will be administered by the Midland Area Community Foundation.

    a.      Members may make one payment to the Midland Area Community Foundation of $300.00 or make individual $100.00 payments.

    b.      In either case, the payment must be received by the MACF within two weeks after the decision meeting or the member risks forfeiting their membership status.

    8.      TBG does not seek to supplant any member’s annual donations to any group or organization but serves primarily as one means of sustaining the many positive aspects of living in the greater Midland area.

    9.      Meeting Logistics

    a.      Meetings to be held at the Midland Country Club three times per year in the months of March, June and October.

    b.      Members must be present to vote.

    c.       Nominations may be made in two ways, as described above in 2a and 2b.

    d.      Three nominations will be selected from those submitted to the MACF prior to the next meeting in order to afford the presenters adequate time to prepare their presentations. 

    e.      The submitting organization or the member submitting a prospective candidate must then make a 3-5 minute presentation about the particular need of the organization.

    f.        Members can pose questions for up to five minutes.

    g.      Votes will be cast by secret ballot with the top vote-getter receiving the funds.

    h.      In the unlikely event of a three-way tie, one of the organizations will be selected by a random draw.

    i.        In the event of a two-way tie for most votes, the organization receiving the least votes will automatically be eliminated and a random draw will decide the winner.
